Anne Shenberger MSS LSW, has served as Executive Director of Court Appointed Special Advocates/Youth Advocates Inc. since October 2009. Prior to joining CASA, Anne was the President and CEO of Philadelphia Safe and Sound, a private non-profit agency charged with administering the City of Philadelphia’s after school and youth violence prevention programs and with conducting research and reporting on the well being of Philadelphia’s children. In addition, she served for twenty years as southeast regional director of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Office of Children Youth and Families. For a period of approximately four years, in addition to her role as regional director, she served as statewide director of the Bureau of County Children and Youth Programs, the office responsible for all child welfare services in Pennsylvania. In those roles, she was responsible managing services for abused and neglected children and children in foster and residential care. Anne initially became involved with CASA through her state role as regional director. In that role, she worked with county court systems and child welfare agencies to move children to safe and permanent homes as quickly as possible. She saw the value that a CASA volunteer can bring to the court and to the child. She received her undergraduate degree in political science from Gettysburg College, graduating magna cum laude. While there, she became a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She received her Master of Social Services degree from the Bryn Mawr College Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research. In addition to her position at CASA, she serves as an expert witness in litigation involving child welfare, juvenile justice and related issues. She served as Board President of Lutheran Settlement House and is currently a member of the Board of Directors of CHOICE and the Greater Philadelphia Federation of Neighborhood Centers.
